bullet October 3rd at the WAC - John Cartmell, Certified Nutritionist, will speak on "Nutrition in Health and Health Care" --how malnutrition can impact health and weaken resistance to disease, and how sound nutrition can promote health and speed recovery during ill-health. Because proper nutrition is essential for health, many health care plans now cover nutritional assessment and consultation for certain conditions. www.dietadvisor.com
bullet September 26th at the WAC - Brandon Peterson, Staff VP Finance and Controller, Alaska Airlines, will discuss the U.S. airline industry with a focus on how hometown carrier Alaska Airlines is positioned in this tumultuous business.  A preview will also be provided of 2007 Congressional aviation legislation that will affect airline ticket taxes paid by consumers and businesses.

bullet September 5th at the WAC - Janice Palm, Executive Director and full-time therapist, Shepherd’s Counseling Services, a non-profit agency dedicated to working with adult survivors of childhood sexual abuse. Founded by Sister Vera Gallagher, the agency is unique in striving to provide affordable, professional clinical services to both men and women.  They see about 100 clients per year, and they offer long-term therapy.  Most clients stay with the agency for more than 2 years, and their testimonials often include words such as, "for the first time in my life, I have found safety." 
bullet August 29th at the WAC -  Leif Tellman is a dance/movement therapist and licensed counselor in private practice in Seattle.  He developed Ecodance as a response to a yearning to help people re-experience their connection to nature through their bodies, creativity and community.

bullet July 25th at the WAC - Terry McGill, Director, Sister Schools, will speak on his organizations success in matching up Seattle-area schools and students with students in other countries, including Uganda and El Salvador, to provide needed supplies and international relationships.
bullet July 18th at the WAC - John Morefield, former Seattle Public Schools principal and former Emerald City Rotarian, will speak on his new project.  John and his wife, Kathy, travel to Cambodia to work with school principals in that country to teach them how to run schools.  The average principal there has an 8th grade education.  The project has funding from the World Bank.
bullet July 11th at the WAC - Rebecca Sadinsky, Executive Director, Powerful Schools, will speak on her organization and how it empowers schools to achieve higher levels of performance. Rebecca  has over 20 years experience leading community development and neighborhood programs. She was the founding manager of the Neighborhood Matching Fund of the City of Seattle's Department of Neighborhoods, a Program Officer for Neighborhood Reinvestment Corporation, a national affordable housing developer, and the Neighborhood Programs Director of Neighborhood House. She has received numerous awards for her achievements, including the Seattle Management Association Outstanding Management Award in 2001. Ms. Sadinsky was a founding volunteer member of Powerful Schools, playing a leading role in the initial implementation of our first program, Community Schools.

bullet May 16th at the WAC- Kenny Byrne, President and CEO iSolditWA.com - The iSolditonEbay franchisee for Western Washington  Kenny will talk about the new economy of Internet sales and transactions, including the benefits and challenges of conducting business on the Internet.  Kenny has 4 stores in operation with another 18-20 planned.  His business provides eBay sales services to those who want to sell things but don’t want to manage the sales and deliveries themselves.  He has had success working with non-profit organizations to help them sell items to benefit their charitable causes.

How does he get to travel the world and meet interesting people and do extraordinary things and get paid very well?  The answer is: bed pans.  Come to hear him explain.
bullet May 2nd at the WAC- Karen Kent, Clinical Supervisor of the Geriatric Regional Assessment Team operating out of Evergreen Medical Center.  Her topic:  “Hoarding: When Collecting Goes Bad”  Afraid your collection is getting out of hand? Know someone who has too much stuff?  Learn what causes excessive collecting and what to do about it.
bullet April 25th at the WAC-  Dan Wilson, former Seattle Mariner catcher, will speak on “Baseball and Beyond.”  Dan is an active supporter of First Place School. 
bullet April 18th at the WAC - Cascade Land Conservancy, speaker TBA, on the Cascade Agenda for protecting and preserving lands in the Cascade Mountains from development.  The Cascade Agenda is a 100-year vision for the Central Cascade region, stretching from Puget Sound to the Columbia River. The population of this region will likely double in 100 years, to more than 7 million people. The Cascade Agenda recognizes that conservation, our economy, and quality of life are inextricably intertwined in planning for future growth.

bullet April 4th at the WAC -  Author and Theorist Ari Cowan, “Responding to and Preventing Violence.” Mr. Cowan is founder of Edvita Institute, which was established in Bellevue, Washington in April 2001. The Institute produces assessment instruments, educational publications, digital audio recordings, workshops and presentations, and professional development programs to help people meet the challenges in their lives. Many of these materials are delivered via the internet and on compact disc. Edvita offerings focus on life skills and human effectiveness with a special emphasis on ending violence.
bullet March 28th at the WAC - Ralph Munro, former Washington Secretary of State, will speak on the Rotary Foundation and what it is accomplishing for polio eradication in the world through the efforts of Seattle-area Rotarians.
bullet March 21st at the WAC - Todd Sames, of Single Point Services, LLC,  will speak on “Taking Control of the Digital Lifestyle,” and will offer advice on how to manage the different types of digital information being used in our homes, for entertainment, for security, and for control of household systems. 
bullet March 14th at the WAC -  Lisa Moore, of Successful Schools in Action, a collaborative coalition of seven Seattle schools with its goal to improve the quality of public school education.
bullet March 7th at the WAC - Jeff Van Duzer, Dean, College of Business and Economics, Seattle Pacific University.  Jeff will speak on how cultural and economic influences in business and society can erode corporate ethics, and how to recognize and counteract those influences.
bullet February 28th at the WAC - Leah Kliger, writer and health care administrator, author of “Still Sexy After All These Years?:  The 9 Unspoken Truths about Women’s Desire Beyond 50.”  Spouses and significant others are especially welcome for this pre-publication glimpse at some important aspects of female sexuality.
bullet February 21st at the WAC -  U.S. Representative Jim McDermott.  Congressman McDermott has built enormous political support in his 7th Congressional District by representing his urban Seattle constituency as an outspoken liberal Democrat.
bullet February 14th at the WAC - Doug MacDonald, State Director of Transportation.  Transportation policy in Washington State is at a crossroads.  This timely presentation will occur during the legislative session and will focus on the Department of Transportation’s response to the state’s major transportation issues.
bullet February 7th at the WAC - Bill Poole, Professor and Chair, Department of Computer Science and Software Engineering, Seattle University.  Fellow Emerald City Rotarian Bill will speak on "Viruses, Worms, Trojan Horses, and Phishing: How to Practice Safe Computing in the Privacy of Your Home."

bullet January 17th at the WAC - Lorraine McConaghy, Historian, Museum of History and Industry.  The U.S. Sloop-of-War Decatur came to Elliott Bay in 1855.  This illustrated presentation will explore the role of the officers and crew of the Decatur in defense of the settlement of Seattle during Washington Territory's Treaty War, including their social impacts on a frontier city.
bullet January 10th at the WAC - Herb Pfiffner, Executive Director, Union Gospel Mission.  Herb will address issues of homelessness, domestic violence, addiction and recovery, issues that affect our community every day, and how the Mission is addressing these needs.

January 3rd at the WAC - Our speaker for this coming Tuesday morning's meeting will be Bonnie Hilory, Executive Director, Saul and Dayee Haas Foundation.  Bonnie will speak about the mission and activity of the Haas Foundation, providing resources for the benefit of schools.  The vision of the Foundation is to help promising young people at critical times in their lives. To do that which otherwise would not be timely doneThe Foundation helps thousands of young people every year, and encourages the adoption of schools among other activities.
